قام مستشفى الدكتور سليمان الحبيب بالخبر بإنقاذ شاب يعاني من مرض نادر، يُعرف بمتلازمة انحلال الدم اليوريمية Atyoical HUS، والذي يُصيب نظام المناعة ويسبب زيادة نشاطه، ويؤدي إلى تدمير الأوعية الدموية الدقيقة وتكسر الدم والصفائح، خاصة في الكلى، مما يؤدي إلى الفشل الكلوي الحاد. ونجح فريق طبي قاده د. مناف الجشي استشاري أمراض الكلى في انقاذه بتوفير وتطبيق تقنية علاجية جديدة ومبتكرة.

واستطرد قائلاً أن نتائج الفحوصات أظهرت إصابة المراجع بهذه المتلازمة النادرة، وقام الفريق بدراسة الحالة باستفاضة، وخلص إلى خطة علاجية متكاملة، تم فيها استخدام علاج بيولوجي جديد اسمه Ravulizumab، ويعمل بشكل دقيق لتثبيط البروتين المناعي المسؤول عن المرض، وبعد عدة أيام من بدء العلاج بدأت حالة المريض في التحسن، واستمر التعافي في الدم والحالة الصحية العامة مع الرعاية الطبية الحثيثة، حتى غادر المراجع المستشفى بحالة جيدة.
وقد بينت الفحوصات الجينية الدقيقة سبب المرض عبر اكتشاف طفرة جينية في بروتين من نظام المناعة مسؤولة عن تهيج المناعة ومسببة لهذا المرض، ولم تسجل هذه الطفرة من قبل على مستوى العالم.
