Hebrew media: complex and contradictory scenarios regarding the implementation of Trump’s plan in Gaza

In Israel, they consider that Hamas’s inability to return the bodies of 24 Israeli captives is a violation of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement according to the plan of U.S. President Donald Trump, which began implementation yesterday, Monday, with Hamas releasing 20 living captives and the bodies of four captives, in exchange for Israel releasing 1,968 Palestinian prisoners.

And there are differences of opinion within the Israeli security establishment regarding how to deal with the failure to return the bodies of the Israeli captives, or with any development that Israel considers a violation of the agreement by Hamas.

The commander of the southern command of the army, Yaniv Assur, spoke with military division commanders in the Gaza Strip about implementing “an immediate response regarding any imminent threat or detecting suspicious movements threatening the forces,” according to the “Walla” website today, Tuesday.

On the other hand, other sources in the security apparatus said that decisions in this regard should be made after evaluating each incident separately and that the decisions are subject to the approval of Defense Minister Yisrael Katz.

The military analyst in “Haaretz” newspaper, Amos Harel, pointed out today that Hamas is facing difficulty in finding part of the bodies of the Israeli captives, “and regarding the other part, Hamas is practicing psychological warfare. Israel will have to, with the help of mediators, continue to exert heavy pressure on Hamas in order to return other bodies, but most likely some of them will remain a mystery that will not be solved for a long time.”

Harel added that “for Trump, the war is over and Israel has won. And now, it is necessary to move towards the fruits: normalization agreements with Arab countries in the region and perhaps with distant Islamic countries, foremost among them Indonesia, in addition to unlimited economic opportunities. Trump also clarified two other things: his love and personal appreciation for Netanyahu and his unlimited support for Israel. And after the blow that Hamas inflicted on October 7, and after a long and exhausting war, American support is the most important for Israel’s international and regional position. The subsequent developments, as usual, depend on Trump’s interest in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.”

UNRWA: Rising Food Prices in Gaza Due to Israel’s Destruction of Agricultural Land

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Friday of unprecedented increases in food prices in the Gaza Strip, as a result of Israel’s destruction and seizure of agricultural lands.

UNRWA added that almost all agricultural lands in the Gaza Strip have become “destroyed or inaccessible,” leaving families without income and driving food prices to record highs after two years of Israel’s genocidal war.

The agency explained that “Palestinian families who once lived off their land in the Gaza Strip no longer have any source of income and therefore cannot afford the cost of food, even after it returns to markets.”

It also warned of skyrocketing food prices in Gaza, saying that “a kilo of tomatoes that previously cost 60 cents now costs 15 dollars — if available at all.”

The UN agency stressed the “urgent need for unrestricted humanitarian aid flow into Gaza until the agricultural sector is rebuilt.”

Israel Denies Central Responsibility for Missing Bodies of Its Captives in Gaza

According to statements by the International Committee of the Red Cross and U.S. officials, Israel’s heavy and indiscriminate bombing of the Gaza Strip during the past two years of war is one of the reasonsif not the main reasonfor the loss of the bodies of Israeli captives in the Strip, which Hamas says it has been unable to locate.

The International Committee of the Red Cross described the search for these bodies as “a tremendous challenge” due to the massive destruction caused by Israeli bombardment, adding that “this is even more challenging than releasing living captives,” and that it may take days or weeksif they are ever found at all.

Advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that Hamas intends to uphold its pledge to return all the bodies of Israeli captives, despite the movement’s announcement that this would be difficult. One adviser said, “We continue to hear from them their determination to honor the agreement. They want to complete it regarding this matter.” U.S. advisers emphasized that recovering the bodies in Gaza is an extremely difficult task due to the complete destruction of the Strip, which requires specialized equipment.

Despite causing these difficulties, Israel claimed that Hamas’s failure to return all the bodies of its captives constitutes a violation of the ceasefire agreement and threatened to resume the war on Gaza, closing the Rafah crossing to humanitarian aid. However, during the war, repeated warnings were raised in Israel that heavy bombardment in the Strip could result in the deaths of living Israeli captives and the loss of the bodies of the dead ones, but the Israeli government and military ignored those warnings.

Katz Orders “Field Warning Markers” Along the “Yellow Line” in Gaza

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said he had instructed the Israeli army to place “clear and visible field markings” along what is known as the “Yellow Line,” the line to which Israeli forces withdrew under the terms of the current ceasefire agreement with Hamas inside the Gaza Strip.

Katz said in a press statement that these markings will serve “as a warning to Hamas fighters and Gaza residents” that “any violation or attempt to cross the line will be met with gunfire,” according to The Times of Israel.

The Israeli army has killed several Palestinians in recent days after the ceasefire took effect, claiming they “crossed the Yellow Line,” which delineates Israel’s control over about 53% of the devastated Palestinian territory.

Last week, the Israeli army began gradually withdrawing its forces in Gaza to the Yellow Line—the first withdrawal line under U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war—following the Israeli government’s approval of the agreement.

Trump Made the Decisions on Gaza as Israel Fears What Comes Next

Military analysts said Friday that Israel will not resume the war on Gaza without a “bright green light” from the United States, and that finding the bodies of Israeli captives in Gaza will take weeks or more.

According to military analyst Yoav Limor of Israel Hayom, although Hamas announced it could not locate the remaining bodies of Israeli captives after handing over nine this week, Israeli sources claim that “Hamas is lying and has full or partial information on the whereabouts of almost all the bodies.”

He said this depends mainly on “American insistence and how much attention President Trump’s team will give to the issue, as well as pressure on Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt to influence Hamas.” Limor added that “Qatar and Turkey want to preserve Hamas’s presence in Gaza under the new administration being set up there, while Egypt mainly wants calm.”

He noted that if Israel agreed to some form of settlement on the Palestinian issue, it would gain a major advantagesuch a settlement could include granting the Palestinian Authority an official role in Gaza’s future administration and recognizing the concept of a Palestinian state, though this is currently impractical. “That would be enough for Arab and Islamic states convinced by Trump and his advisers,” Limor said.

He added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must choose between the country’s interests and his electoral base, noting that “this week, he chose both: he prioritized the hostage deal over his far-right coalition partners (Smotrich and Ben Gvir, who opposed the ceasefire and prisoner swap), then chose his partners again by skipping the Sharm el-Sheikh summit.”

Limor said the Israeli army remains on alert for a possible resumption of fighting: “Although most troops have been demobilizedreserves sent home and regulars restingthere is still a large force in Gaza to prevent surprises and respond quickly if needed.”

He said Israel will monitor four main indicators to assess the success of the agreement:

The return of the captives’ bodies. Whether Hamas resumes weapons production, such as rockets and explosives. Whether tunnel construction resumes, especially offensive tunnels toward Israel. Whether Hamas reestablishes its civil governance in Gaza.

Limor added that some in Israel talk about the “Lebanonization” of Gazatargeting Hamas operatives regularly as is done against Hezbollah in southern Lebanonbut he warned that this is “an overly optimistic and unrealistic scenario,” since “in Lebanon there is a government interested in weakening Hezbollah, while in Gaza, Hamas is the government itself,” and “while assassinations in Lebanon occur with U.S. consent, in Gaza Washington has made it clear that the war is over—and resuming it would require far more than tweets.”

Fatah Responds to Hamas Official’s Statements on the Next Phase in Gaza

The Fatah Movement said that in light of the recent statements by Hamas official Mohammed Nazzal, which clearly revealed the movement’s approach and vision for the coming phase, such positions again prove that Hamas continues to prioritize its narrow factional interests and organizational survival over the suffering and sacrifices of the Palestinian people.

Fatah spokesperson Abd al-Fattah Dawla said:

“After two years of genocide, destruction, and displacement suffered by our people in the Gaza Strip, Hamas should have aligned itself with the will and higher interests of its people, instead of continuing to turn its back on the tragic reality created by the coup and years of unilateral rule.”

He affirmed in a statement issued Saturday that Fatah firmly rejects any partial solutions or formulas that perpetuate separation between Gaza and the West Bank, or grant the occupation free concessions through talk of a “long-term truce.”

He stressed that such proposals undermine the core of the Palestinian national project, replacing the comprehensive political solution based on international legitimacy and an independent sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, with local administrative projects under the occupation’s control.

Completed applications will be electronically forwarded to the General Directorate of Passports in Ramallah for printing. The finished passports will then be sent back to the embassy or consulate for delivery to citizens.

The ministry confirmed that this is the only approved mechanism currently in place for Gaza residents to obtain passports.
