وأوضح المهندس محمد العسيري، نائب الرئيس التنفيذي لقطاع البيانات ودعم القرار في هيئة تطوير الشرقية، أن مدينة الخبر شهدت قفزة استثنائية بتقدمها 38 مركزًا في مؤشر المدن الذكية العالمي الذي يطلقه المعهد الدولي للتنمية الإدارية، وهو ما يُعد أعلى تقدم تحققه مدينة عالميًا في هذا المؤشر منذ تأسيسه.
وأضاف أن هذا الإنجاز جاء نتيجةً لتضافر جهود أكثر من خمس وعشرين جهة تنموية، عملت ضمن إطار تشاركي قادته الهيئة وارتكز على مستهدفات رؤية المملكة 2030، ومن أهمها أن تصبح ثلاث مدن سعودية من أفضل مئة مدينة حول العالم في قابلية العيش، ومنها مدينة الخبر.
وأكد العسيري أن الهيئة قادت هذا الملف وأسهمت في تحقيق هذا التقدم الكبير، الذي يعكس الجهود المستمرة في تطوير البنية التحتية وتطبيق التقنيات الحديثة في مجالات متعددة مثل الصحة، والتعليم، والنقل، والثقافة، والحوكمة، مما يجعل الخبر مدينة أكثر تفاعلاً واستجابة لاحتياجات المواطنين والمقيمين.
