A news bulletin provided by Sawa News Agency for Saturday, July 19, 2025, covering the most important developments in the Gaza Strip, Israel, and the West Bank.
Trump: We Will Soon Recover 10 More Hostages from Gaza
Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that 10 more hostages will be released from Gaza soon, without providing additional details, according to Reuters.
Trump made this remark during a dinner with members of the U.S. House of Representatives at the White House, praising the efforts of his special envoy, Steve Witkoff.
Negotiators from Israel and Hamas are currently engaged in the latest round of ceasefire talks in Doha since July 6, discussing a U.S.-backed proposal for a 60-day ceasefire.
Trump said: "We have recovered most of the hostages. We will recover 10 more hostages very soon, and we hope to finish that quickly."
New Massacre - 36 Martyrs Among Aid Seekers in Southern Gaza Strip
Dozens of citizens were martyred and injured early Saturday morning, July 19, 2025, in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, including 36 aid seekers.
The director of Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis confirmed the martyrdom of 36 citizens and more than 70 injuries among the aid seekers, who were transferred to the hospital.
Local sources reported the martyrdom of 6 citizens and 16 injuries in an Israeli bombing of a tent sheltering displaced people in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City.
Additionally, several citizens were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting the tent of the Al-Houbi family near the industrial area in western Khan Yunis, southern Gaza.
Palestinian Leadership Issues Urgent Messages to the World Regarding Gaza
The Palestinian leadership has issued urgent messages to the countries of the world and their leaders, urging them to take serious and immediate action to stop the starvation genocide being inflicted upon the Palestinian people, which is devastating children in the Gaza Strip.
Hussein Al-Sheikh, the Deputy Prime Minister of Palestine, stated, "Shame haunts the silent human conscience over what is happening."
Al-Sheikh emphasized the need to immediately halt this war and save the Palestinian people.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in over 198,000 Palestinians killed or injured, most of them women and children. More than 10,000 people remain missing, alongside hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals and a famine that has claimed many lives.
UN Commissioner: Israeli Attack on Church Sheltering Civilians is a War Crime
The spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Thamin Al-Khaitan, stated that Israel's attack on a church sheltering Palestinian refugees "constitutes a war crime."
In a press statement tonight, Al-Khaitan added that the Israeli attack on the "Holy Family" Church in Gaza City, which was sheltering displaced Palestinians, "raises concerns about serious potential violations of international law, particularly attacks on places of worship and civilian areas."
Al-Khaitan emphasized the need to adhere to international humanitarian law, noting that "the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian areas constitutes a war crime."
He further explained that the UN Human Rights Council continues to examine the details of the incident, which targeted a church housing nearly 600 Palestinians, including children and individuals with disabilities.
Ministry of Health in Gaza: The Strip is Experiencing a Catastrophic Famine
The Ministry of Health in Gaza warned on Saturday of an unprecedented humanitarian and health disaster, with the ongoing Israeli massacres and severe shortages of essential materials, particularly food, amid a complete lack of medical resources to address the crisis's consequences.
In its statement, the ministry confirmed that Gaza is experiencing a catastrophic famine, evidenced by the widespread occurrence of severe malnutrition and the rising death toll from hunger. At the same time, medical teams are witnessing a rapid collapse in their ability to manage the crisis.
The statement noted that Nasser Medical Complex has received 32 martyrs and dozens of injuries since early this morning, as a result of a massacre committed by Israeli occupation forces at American aid distribution centers in southern Gaza, which the ministry described as "death traps."
The Ministry of Health called on the international community, UN agencies, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to take urgent and effective action to stop these massacres, open safe humanitarian corridors for the regular and safe delivery of food, medicine, and fuel, and warned of the consequences of international silence on the escalating disaster.
1,500 Students Apply Electronically for the "Tawjihi 2005" Exams in Gaza
On Saturday, approximately 1,500 students from the Gaza Strip applied electronically for the third session (complementary) of the General Secondary School Exams (Tawjihi), intended for students who were unable to complete up to two subjects in the 2023 academic year exams.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education launched this session electronically as part of an exceptional arrangement approved due to the emergency conditions caused by the ongoing Israeli genocidal war.
In a press conference held at the Ministry's headquarters in Ramallah, Minister of Education and Higher Education Amjad Barham stated that the exams started this morning electronically through a dedicated software system, after completing all the necessary technical arrangements. He explained that this session is for students born in 2005 who were unable to take the third session that was originally scheduled for December 12, 2023, but was postponed due to the aggression on Gaza.
Spokesperson for the ministry, Sadiq Khudur, explained that the exams are held in two shifts: the first from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and the second from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. He noted that some students are taking one subject, while others are taking two.
Khudur also mentioned that the ministry had conducted a trial test last Thursday to ensure technical and readiness before the official exam.
He added that the ministry would later announce the arrangements for the General Secondary Exams for students born in 2006 and 2007. The session for students born in 2006 (Tawjihi 2024) will be held after completing this stage, followed by the session for students born in 2007 (Tawjihi 2025), using the same electronic methods.
He noted that the number of Tawjihi students in Gaza over the past two years was around 78,000, with 4,000 martyred due to the aggression. Additionally, 4,000 others took the exams abroad, leaving around 70,000 students, born in 2006 and 2007, who will take the exams in the next phase.
Hamas Calls for Global Movement on Sunday Against Israeli Starvation in Gaza
Hamas has called for a global movement on Sunday, July 20, 2025, to protest the systematic starvation policy being implemented by Israel in the Gaza Strip and the ongoing genocide.
In a statement on Saturday, Hamas said: "A call to the nation and freedom-loving people around the world to take action and save the Palestinian people in Gaza from death by bombing, hunger, and thirst. Let tomorrow, Sunday, and the coming days be a loud outcry against the Zionist occupation and the systematic starvation in Gaza."
The movement called on the world’s free people to organize "all forms of massive public marches, solidarity activities, raise their voices loudly, and exert all political, diplomatic, parliamentary, labor, and student pressures in solidarity with Gaza and against the war of genocide and starvation, until the brutal aggression stops and the unjust siege ends."
It appealed for Sunday and the days to follow to be "global days to expose and condemn the Zionist genocide and starvation crimes against innocent civilians in Gaza, including children, women, and the sick."
Hamas concluded by saying: "Let all efforts unite, Arab, Islamic, and international, and let us be one voice in solidarity with Gaza and against the genocide and starvation war being waged on over two million Palestinians."
Earlier on Saturday, the Ministry of Health in Gaza warned of the catastrophic consequences of the famine gripping the region due to Israel's tight closure of the crossings since early March. The ministry confirmed a significant rise in death rates resulting from hunger.
In its statement, the Ministry of Health confirmed that Gaza is experiencing "an actual famine, evidenced by the severe shortage of essential food items, widespread acute malnutrition, and a complete lack of medical resources to address the consequences of this disaster."
قال ChatGPT:Gaza: Government Media Office Calls for Opening Safe Corridors to Ensure Food and Medicine Access
The Government Media Office in Gaza called on the international community on Saturday, July 19, 2025, to open safe humanitarian corridors under international supervision to ensure the delivery of food and medicine to all areas of the Gaza Strip.
In its statement, the office also urged the international community to conduct an international investigation into the crime of starvation, which Israel continues to commit by closing Gaza's crossings since early March.
The office issued an urgent appeal to the international community, as well as its UN, human rights, and legal organizations, to take immediate action to stop the ongoing genocide committed by Israel since October 7, 2023.
It said: "In light of the escalating humanitarian disaster in Gaza for 651 days of genocide and starvation, we demand the establishment of safe and permanent humanitarian corridors under direct and effective international supervision, to ensure the unhindered delivery of food and medicine to all regions without obstruction from the occupation."
The Government Media Office emphasized the need to "remove the political dimension from humanitarian aid and halt any manipulation or control over it by the occupation or complicit parties."
It also called for the immediate lifting of the Israeli siege on Gaza, describing it as a collective crime against the civilian population, and urged international pressure to compel Israel to halt its genocide, starvation policies, and forced displacement.
Additionally, the office called for the international community to open an urgent investigation into the "starvation crime in Gaza and to bring those responsible to fair trials."
Details of Meeting Between Mustafa and UNDP Representative Regarding Gaza
On Saturday, July 19, 2025, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa met at his office in Ramallah with the new United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Special Representative in Palestine, Jaco Silliers. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Stephan Salama, and the Minister of Social Development, Samah Hamad.
The Prime Minister welcomed the new UN representative, emphasizing the pivotal role of the UNDP in assisting the Palestinian people, supporting development in Palestine, and enhancing the capabilities of state institutions and institutional development.
Mustafa also stressed the importance of intensifying international pressure to open all crossings into the Gaza Strip to allow the entry of aid to meet urgent needs, and to address the escalating famine affecting the people of Gaza.
He highlighted the significance of strengthening joint efforts with various international relief organizations working in the Gaza Strip and the coordination efforts carried out through the government’s operations room concerning relief coordination, as well as coordinating emergency interventions for families affected by the occupation and its settlers in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. This is especially important given the ongoing assaults in northern West Bank, the destruction of refugee camps, and the demolition of infrastructure.
The Prime Minister also mentioned ongoing efforts and coordination with the Arab Republic of Egypt and all concerned parties regarding the upcoming reconstruction conference.
Israeli Army Launches 90 Airstrikes on Gaza in 24 Hours
The Israeli army announced on Saturday, July 19, 2025, that it had carried out 90 airstrikes on various areas of the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, while continuing its ground assaults inside the territory.
The escalation of Israeli attacks in Gaza coincides with media reports discussing "progress" in negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement taking place in the Qatari capital, Doha.
In a statement, the Israeli military said: "Over the past day, the Air Force executed approximately 90 airstrikes on targets across the Gaza Strip, in collaboration with maneuver forces."
The army claimed that the targets included "military complexes, buildings used by militants, underground infrastructure, and other infrastructure."
However, field reports from Gaza, corroborated by medical sources and eyewitnesses, indicate that the targets of the army's attacks are primarily refugee tents, civilian homes, and shelters, with children and women making up the majority of the casualties.
The Israeli military also stated: "The 162nd Division continues its activities in the northern Gaza Strip, and the 99th Division continues operations in the northern and central areas. Meanwhile, the 98th Division has expanded its combat operations around Gaza City."
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been conducting a genocide campaign in Gaza, involving killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, while disregarding all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to cease these actions.
The genocide, supported by the United States, has left over 198,000 Palestinians dead or injured, most of them children and women. More than 9,000 are missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, and a famine that has claimed many lives.
Gaza Health Ministry Issues Updated Casualty Toll of Israeli Assault
The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Saturday, July 19, 2025, that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli assault has risen to 58,765 martyrs and 140,485 injuries since October 7, 2023.
In its daily report, the ministry noted that 98 martyrs, including 3 recovered from under rubble, and 511 injuries were received at Gaza hospitals over the past 48 hours.
The report also stated that between March 18, 2025, and today, the number of casualties reached 7,938 martyrs and 28,444 injuries.
Regarding casualties linked to humanitarian aid efforts, the ministry confirmed that 14 people were martyred and more than 94 injured while trying to access aid in the last 48 hours. This brings the total number of aid-related casualties who reached hospitals to 891 martyrs and over 5,754 injuries—many of them civilians seeking food for survival.
Nine Palestinians Killed in Israeli Drone Strike on Residential Apartment in Central Gaza
Nine Palestinians were martyred and several others wounded on Saturday, July 19, 2025, after an Israeli drone targeted a residential apartment south of Al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
According to local sources, the drone strike hit the apartment, killing nine people, including a child and an infant. The wounded were transported to Al-Awda Hospital in Al-Nuseirat for treatment.
Medical sources reported that a total of 70 Palestinians have been killed since early Saturday, including 36 people seeking humanitarian aid, amid ongoing Israeli attacks on various parts of the Gaza Strip.
Abo Al-Rub: Sharp Reduction in Employee Working Hours to Ease Burden Amid Fiscal Crisis
Director of the Government Communication Center, Mohammed Abu Al-Rub, announced on Saturday, July 19, 2025, that the exceptional Cabinet session held last Thursday discussed measures to ease the burden on public employees, particularly due to Israel’s continued withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues.
Speaking to Voice of Palestine Radio, Abu Al-Rub clarified that this move does not undermine the role or function of national institutions, which he described as a political achievement and an essential service umbrella for the Palestinian people. He stressed the importance of maintaining institutional continuity, especially in light of Israel’s ongoing war and financial siege.
He added that the Palestinian government is exerting ongoing diplomatic pressure on the international community and all partner states to intervene immediately to stop the aggression and release the withheld Palestinian funds.
Abu Al-Rub also mentioned positive signals from several countries applying pressure on Israel to release the funds. These efforts coincide with initiatives to open border crossings and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza to alleviate the worsening famine.
He concluded by stating that since assuming office, the current government has implemented over 60 reform measures, focusing on cutting unnecessary expenses and redirecting resources toward critical sectors.
PLO Executive Committee Convenes to Discuss Political, Organizational, and Legal Files
The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) held a meeting the night before last, chaired by Hussein Al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine and Deputy Head of the Committee. The session focused on a range of critical political and organizational issues, most notably preparations for the Palestinian National Council (PNC) session, the ongoing withholding of clearance revenues, and escalating Israeli violations.
At the outset, PNC President Rawhi Fattouh presented a report on the efforts to convene a new session of the Council by the end of 2025, in accordance with the Council's governing law, which stipulates a 350-member body, including 200 members from inside Palestine and 150 from abroad.
In light of this, the Executive Committee decided to form a preparatory committee chaired by Fattouh and including representatives from the Executive Committee, Palestinian factions, popular organizations, civil society, and diaspora communities.
The committee also reviewed updates on Palestinian diplomatic outreach to Arab and international parties regarding Israel’s ongoing aggression in the West Bank and Gaza, including land confiscations, forced displacement, raids, and the continued withholding of Palestinian funds.
It emphasized the need for intensified political and diplomatic action to reclaim the withheld revenues and reject Israel’s blackmail policies, calling on the United States and France to pressure Israel for their immediate release.
Additionally, the committee discussed ongoing Israeli legal cases filed against the PLO and decided to establish a special legal committee to coordinate with the organization’s legal team.
On internal matters, the committee reviewed the draft bylaws of the Executive Committee. A dedicated subcommittee will finalize proposals for ratification at the next session.
The committee also saluted Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and called on Palestinians everywhere to mark the International Day of Solidarity with Prisoners, urging international advocacy and protection in line with international humanitarian law.
To counter settler violence and displacement, the Executive Committee called for the formation of local protection committees in villages, camps, and farmlands.
The meeting concluded with a special report on the situation of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) branch in Jerusalem, with decisions taken to restore normal operations in line with internal laws and regulations.
Hebrew Media: Israel Sees This Week as a 'Turning Point' in Gaza Negotiations
Hebrew media reported on Saturday, July 19, 2025, new developments in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations taking place in Doha, Qatar, suggesting that Israel views this week as a pivotal moment that could determine whether talks will continue or collapse.
According to Kan News, Israeli officials claim that Hamas is currently presenting obstacles, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the negotiation team to remain in Doha and may even send additional senior officials to reinforce the delegation.
The Israeli delegation has reportedly been in Qatar for nearly two weeks, and Kan stated that progress has been made on humanitarian aid, while key disputes remain over the Israeli military’s redeployment map and the release of Palestinian prisoners. The negotiations are also said to address the end of the war itself.
Meanwhile, Yedioth Ahronoth reported that a high-level Israeli delegation is expected to join the talks upon the arrival of U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff this week. The team may include Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, Mossad Chief David Barnea, National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi, and the acting Shin Bet chief.
On the American side, President Donald Trump stated that ten more hostages held in Gaza will be released "very soon," though he offered no further details. Speaking at a dinner with House members at the White House, Trump praised the efforts of his special envoy Steve Witkoff, saying:
"We’ve recovered most of the hostages. We’ll get ten more back very soon, and hopefully, we’ll wrap this up quickly."
Israeli and Hamas negotiators have been engaged in this latest round of talks since July 6, discussing a U.S.-backed proposal for a 60-day ceasefire.
President Abbas Issues Decree on Palestinian National Council Elections
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a decree mandating the election of a new Palestinian National Council (PNC) before the end of 2025.
According to the text of the decree, which cites the PLO’s Basic Law and the PNC electoral system, the decision was made in line with the public interest and based on the recommendation of the PLO Executive Committee during its meeting in Ramallah on July 17, 2025.
Key points of the decree include:
PNC elections will be held before the end of 2025, in accordance with the official electoral system. The exact date will be set by the head of the PLO Executive Committee.
The new council will consist of 350 members, with two-thirds representing Palestinians inside the homeland, and one-third representing the diaspora.
Membership eligibility requires commitment to the PLO’s program, its international obligations, and international legitimacy.
The Executive Committee will form a Preparatory Committee, headed by the PNC President, including members from the PNC presidency office, Executive Committee, Palestinian factions, popular organizations, civil society, and diaspora communities. This committee will be tasked with the necessary arrangements and must submit its mandate and structure for approval within two weeks from the date of the decree.
This step is seen as part of broader organizational and political reforms amid internal and external pressures, including the ongoing Israeli aggression and the financial crisis facing the Palestinian Authority.
Gaza Negotiations: Withdrawal Map Awaits Israeli Response
Negotiations to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip are ongoing, with the main sticking point now being the Israeli army’s withdrawal map during the proposed 60-day truce, alongside unresolved issues regarding the exchange of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli hostages.
Key Developments:Hamas sources, speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, said that a map outlining Israeli troop positions was submitted via mediators, based on a revised version of an Israeli proposal. The map includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Morag corridor between Khan Younis and Rafah, but still allows troops to remain in certain areas within up to 1 km, covering nearly 20% of Gaza’s territory.
The Palestinian negotiating team has not yet issued a final response, awaiting official Israeli feedback. Internal discussions are ongoing within Hamas leadership and with other Palestinian factions, with some parties demanding that the January 2025 agreement—which had clearer withdrawal obligations—be upheld.
The Palestinian response may be delivered on Saturday or Sunday, depending on when Israel issues its reply.
The proposed map includes guaranteed withdrawal deadlines, forming part of Phase 2 of the agreement, which will be negotiated immediately after Phase 1 begins.
If the map is agreed upon, talks will shift to finalizing the “key framework” for prisoner exchanges, which may take an additional two days.
Other Sticking Points:The humanitarian aid clause has not yet been finalized. Israel is accused of stalling and manipulating the finer points of the proposal.
Despite this, Hamas maintains a positive stance, but warns that Israel’s inconsistent responses remain the main obstacle to a final deal.
Mediators, particularly the United States, are under pressure to compel Israel to meet resistance demands, especially to prevent Israeli troops from remaining in large swathes of Gaza during the ceasefire.
Israeli Position:According to Israeli broadcaster KAN, this week is considered a “turning point” in the negotiations, with Prime Minister Netanyahu instructing the delegation to stay in Doha. A senior-level delegation may also be sent if U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff arrives.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the possible delegation could include Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, Mossad Chief David Barnea, and other top officials.
Israeli media confirms the main disputes now revolve around troop deployment maps and prisoner releases.
These developments suggest a narrow window of opportunity in the coming days. Should Israel respond positively, a ceasefire deal could be finalized swiftly. Otherwise, talks may stall again.
