توصل باحثون من خلال دراسة علمية إلى نوع من الأدوية رخيص الثمن ومتاح على نطاق واسع يقلل إلى النصف خطر إصابة الأشخاص بمرض معدٍ وقاتل.
يعد السل ثاني أكثر الأمراض المعدية فتكًا، وفقًا لمنظمة الصحة العالمية، حيث قتل عدد أقل قليلاً من الأشخاص، مقارنة بـ "كوفيد- 19"، وذلك وفقا لإحصاءات العام الماضي.
في كل عام، يصاب ما يقدر بنحو 450 ألف شخص بالسل المقاوم للأدوية، والذي لم تعد أدوية الخطوط الأمامية فعالة في القضاء عليه.
ومع ذلك، فقد وجد أن المضاد الحيوي المتوفر بشكل شائع ليفوفلوكساسين، يقلل بشكل آمن من خطر إصابة الأطفال بالسل، بنسبة 56 في المئة، وفقًا لبحث جديد تم تقديمه في جنوب أفريقيا في المؤتمر العالمي للاتحاد حول صحة الرئة في باريس.
تعاون فريقا البحث، واقترحا نهجا إحصائيا يسمى بـ"التحليل البايزي"، والذي توصل إلى أن ليفوفلوكساسين بشكل عام يقلل من خطر الإصابة بالسل المقاوم للأدوية المتعددة بنسبة 60 في المئة لجميع الأعمار.
