Sharp Dispute within Israeli Cabinet Over "Humanitarian City" in Rafah

Israeli media reported this morning, Monday, July 14, 2025, that a sharp dispute erupted during the Israeli Security and Political Cabinet meeting held last night regarding the proposed establishment of a "humanitarian city" in Rafah, southern Gaza.

Israeli military representatives estimated during the cabinet session that creating the "humanitarian city" in Rafah would take more than a year, with costs ranging between $10 to $15 billion. According to Channel 12, a political source who attended the Cabinet meeting last night stated, "The Prime Minister firmly rejected the Israeli military's and Ministry of Defense's comments on the 'humanitarian city' plan in Rafah. He said he understood that this was their way of preventing the project from happening, but he is determined to implement it."

The source added, "After a lengthy discussion, he asked them to come up with an alternative plan by tomorrow that is simpler, faster, and less costly, so that it can be practically implemented."

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya Subjected to "Brutal Torture" in Israeli Prisons

The lawyer of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya revealed today, Monday, that he has been subjected to dire conditions of detention in Israeli prisons, including brutal torture, which resulted in a loss of 40 kilograms of his body weight.

In a post on her Facebook page, the lawyer explained that Dr. Abu Safiya was violently beaten in areas such as his chest, face, head, and neck for about 30 minutes, which caused severe injuries.

She pointed out that the Israeli authorities refused to provide him with necessary medical treatment or medications and withheld his access to a specialist doctor, despite his urgent need for medical care, especially due to irregular heartbeats.

The lawyer further added that Dr. Abu Safiya continues to wear heavy winter clothes despite the harsh detention conditions, which include starvation, torture, and solitary confinement. She confirmed that he remains in an underground cell with no sunlight.
