يعد مركز علاج العقم والمساعدة على الإنجاب بمستشفى الدكتور سليمان الحبيب بالخبر، المركز الوحيد المعتمد من وزارة الصحة لتقديم خدمة تجميد الحيوانات المنوية والبويضات، في المنطقة الشرقية وأحد المستشفيات القليلة التي حظيت بهذا الامتياز على مستوى المملكة.
وقال د. أحمد الشايب استشاري علاج العقم بالمستشفى، أن هذه الخدمة تبقي أبواب الأمل في الأمومة والأبوة مفتوحة لعدة فئات، أبرزها مرضى الأورام الخبيثة "الرجال والنساء" قبل البدء في العلاج الكيماوي أو الشعاعي، أو قبل خضوع الرجل للعلاجات الجراحية أوالدوائية، التي قد تؤثر سلباً أو توقف إنتاج الحيوانات المنوية والبويضات.

وأوضح أن المركز يستقبل الحالات الإسعافية لاتمام اللازم وشرح الخطوات بشكل مبسط، يراعي الحالة الصحية التي يمر بها المرضى، بعد تشخيص الإصابة بالأورام الخبيثة مباشرة، وقبل البدء بالعلاج الكيماوي أوالإشعاعي بمدة قصيرة، مشيراً إلى أن المركز بعد أن أسهم في تحقيق حلم الإنجاب بفضل الله، لأعداد كبيرة من الأسر التي عانت من العقم، يقدم الآن هذه الخدمة التي تحافظ على فرص الإنجاب مستقبلاً للفئات التي قد تواجه ظروفاً مرضية، ربما تحول بينهم وبين حلم الأمومة والأبوة.
وأكد أن المركز يتميز عن غيره من المراكز المماثلة، بكفاءة الكودار الطبية العاملة، وبتوفر أفضل وأحدث الأجهزة المختصة بعلاج العقم والمساعدة على الإنجاب، مضيفاً أن كل هذه المزايا مكنت المركز من تحقيق الكثير من الإنجازات الطبية المهمة، ومن أبرز تلك الانجازات ارتفاع نسب النجاح فيه إلى معدلات تتجاوز تلك المعتمدة عالمياً من منظمة خصوبة الإنسان الأوربية. وتابع قائلاً أن المركز يحظى بكافة الإمكانيات والخبرة الممتازة في علاج مختلف أسباب العقم، سواء تعلق الأمر بالزوج أو الزوجة، كالإجهاض المتكرر والأورام، وتكيس المبايض، وانعدام الحيونات المنوية عند الرجال وغيرها، وتميز المركز بشكل لافت في علاج حالات العقم المعقدة التي لازم الفشل محاولاتها المتكررة للإنجاب في المراكز الأخرى.
