عاجل/ المملكة تستضيف الاجتماع التحضيري لجمعية الأمم المتحدة للبيئة

استضافت المملكة ممثلة في وزارة البيئة والمياه والزراعة اليوم، الاجتماع الإقليمي التحضيري للدورة السادسة لجمعية الأمم المتحدة للبيئة لغرب آسيا؛ والذي يستمر على مدار يومين بالعاصمة الرياض.
وناقش الاجتماع نتائج الدورة السابقة (UNEA5) والتحضير لموضوعات وقرارات الدورة السادسة لجمعية الأمم المتحدة للبيئة (UNEA6)، التي ستقام خلال الفترة من 26 فبراير إلى 1 مارس 2024م في مقر برنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة بنيروبي في كينيا، تحت شعار "إجراءات متعددة الأطراف فعالة وشاملة ومستدامة لمعالجة تغير المناخ وفقدان التنوع الأحيائي والتلوث".

وأوضح أن تقديم المملكة لهذا القرار يأتي استكمالًا لجهودها في التصدي للتحديات البيئية، وتأكيدًا على اهتماماتها الوطنية والإقليمية والدولية بالمحافظة على البيئة، حيث ستستضيف هذا العام عددًا من الفعاليات والاجتماعات المهمة؛ منها اليوم العالمي للبيئة، والذي سيتم الاحتفال به بمدينة الرياض بتاريخ 5 يونيو 2024م تحت شعار "استصلاح الأراضي و مكافحة التصحر والقدرة على مقاومة الجفاف"، وبالتزامن مع هذا الحدث البيئي العالمي ستعقد الدورة الثالثة للمنتدى العربي للبيئة تحت شعار "إعادة تأهيل الأراضي لتعزيز القدرة على الصمود"، كما ستعقد في الرياض خلال أكتوبر 2024م الدورة الـ (35) لمجلس الوزراء العرب المسؤولين عن شؤون البيئة ، وخلال الفترة 2-13 ديسمبر 2024م الدورة الـ (16) لمؤتمر الأطراف لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر، مبينًا أن المملكة تمضي قدمًا لدعم وتعزيز التكامل الدولي للتصدي للتحديات البيئية من أجل تحقيق استدامة الحياة وصحة الكوكب ورفاهية المجتمع.
من جانبه، أكد ممثل برنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة والمدير الإقليمي سامي ديماسي أن منطقة غرب أسيا تواجه تحديات بيئية كبيرة، تتعلق بندرة المياه، والتصحر، وتغير المناخ، وفقد التنوع الحيوي وغيرها، وبالتالي تتطلب فهمًا مشتركًا وجهدًا؛ لاستخدام هذا الاجتماع كفرصة؛ لإيصال هذه التحديات إلى الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، مؤكدًا على ضرورة المشاركة الفعالة للوصول إلى فهم مشترك لجميع المشاركين بما يتعلق بالأمور الفنية وغيرها، لافتًا إلى أن دول المنطقة تلعب دورًا محوريًا في تنسيق الأوليات البيئية، بما يحقق المصلحة العامة، ويضمن لها موقعًا عالميًا رائداً في مجال العمل البيئي الدولي.
يشار إلى أن الاجتماع انعقد بمشاركة مجموعة من المفاوضين والخبراء من وزارات وهيئات البيئة في دول غرب آسيا، والأمانة العامة لجامعة الدول العربية، والأمانة العامة لمجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربية، وبرنامج الأمم المتحدة - مكتب غرب آسيا.
