من المتوقع أن يصل الإعصار إلى سواحل فيتنام صباح الجمعة، وسط تحذيرات من احتمال حدوث فيضانات جديدة وانهيارات أرضية.
أسفر إعصار كالمايجي عن مقتل ما لا يقل عن 66 شخصًا وفقدان 26 آخرين في وسط الفلبين، نتيجة الفيضانات الواسعة التي اجتاحت المجتمعات السكنية وأغرقت السيارات، فيما اضطر العديد من السكان للصعود إلى أسطح منازلهم طلبًا للنجاة، وفقًا لما أفادت به السلطات يوم الأربعاء.
وأوضح مكتب الدفاع المدني أن معظم حالات الوفاة وقعت في محافظة سيبو، التي تعرضت لضرر بالغ يوم الثلاثاء، حيث تسببت الفيضانات المفاجئة في ارتفاع منسوب الأنهار والمجاري المائية، وغمرت المياه المنازل والشوارع، ما اضطر السكان للبحث عن النجاة على أسطح منازلهم.
وتوفي ما لا يقل عن 49 شخصًا غرقًا، فيما توفي آخرون نتيجة الانهيارات الأرضية وسقوط الحطام.
وفي حادث منفصل، لقي ستة أشخاص حتفهم يوم الثلاثاء عندما تحطمت طائرة هليكوبتر تابعة للقوات الجوية الفلبينية في محافظة أغوسان ديل سور الجنوبية، أثناء توجهها لتقديم المساعدات الإنسانية للمحافظات المتضررة من الإعصار، بحسب الجيش الفلبيني.

وتسبب الإعصار في أضرار كبيرة بالبنية التحتية والممتلكات، حيث جرفت المياه عشرات السيارات وأغرقت الشوارع بالكامل. كما سُجلت رياح مستمرة سرعتها تصل إلى 130 كيلومترًا في الساعة، مع هبات تصل إلى 180 كيلومترًا في الساعة أثناء اجتياح الإعصار لجزيرة بالاوان قبل أن يتحرك إلى بحر الصين الجنوبي.
ويُتوقع أن يصل الإعصار إلى سواحل فيتنام صباح يوم الجمعة، وسط تحذيرات من احتمال حدوث فيضانات وانهيارات أرضية إضافية.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن الفلبين تتعرض سنويًا لنحو 20 إعصارًا وعاصفة، وغالبًا ما تتعرض للزلازل، وتضم أكثر من عشرة براكين نشطة، ما يجعلها واحدة من أكثر الدول عرضة للكوارث الطبيعية في العالم.
