Concerning Increase in Meningitis Cases in Gaza
The Ministry of Health in Gaza stated on Tuesday evening, July 8, 2025, that there has been a concerning rise in reported cases of meningitis in the Gaza Strip, amidst an unprecedented deterioration in health, humanitarian, and environmental conditions.

It added, "The decline in healthcare services, with hospitals and primary care centers being destroyed or closed, along with a severe shortage of medicines and children's vaccines, is hindering emergency response efforts."
The Ministry pointed out that critical factors have made Gaza's general health situation conducive to the spread and outbreak of diseases, especially among the most vulnerable age groups, including children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Gaza’s health conditions were further exacerbated by the catastrophic conditions in shelters, a severe shortage of drinking water, the spread of sewage, and the accumulation of waste, all of which contribute to the further deterioration of public health.
The Ministry urgently called on all relevant bodies to intervene immediately to improve health and living conditions in order to limit the spread of the disease. It also called for reinforcing medicine supplies for confirmed cases and ensuring essential vaccinations.
It urged the public to follow appropriate preventive measures and medical guidelines to enhance disease prevention and reduce the risk of outbreaks among children.
